Race Season 2020-2021

North Island Championship

This weekend the team travelled to Kihikihi Speedway to compete for the North Island Midget Championship, which is also our last meeting of the season.  It has been a while since the team last raced at Kihikihi and the club have now changed from day-time meetings to night-time meetings which means a completely different setup for the midget.

Heat one saw the new setup by the crew working quite well and Ricky was able to move forward to finish in a respectable 4th place.  Ricky's feedback was that the car was too loose on corner exit, so the crew started making changes to the original setup before the next race.

Heat two and the midget was exiting the turns much better, but was still not getting enough traction on corner exit.  Ricky was able to adjust his driving style again to move forward from the rear of the field to finish in 6th place.  This locked Ricky into the feature where he would start in 9th position.

With the track still looking quite drivey, the team tightened the car further to a similar setup that we would run at the likes of a slick Western Springs track.  The Kihikihi track however started going off very quickly and Ricky was struggling to make passes.  He could put in a well executed pass but the passed car would be able to slide back ahead coming out of the corner.  After a hard fought race, Ricky not only held off the rest of the field but was able to finish in 8th position.  This meant that the team has finished in a top 10 position at  every event this season, which was a great way to end the season!
